Renowned for its horse-drawn carriages, car-free roads, and delicious fudge, Mackinac Island offers an idyllic escape for tourists. The island’s famous limestone Arch Rock, historic Fort Mackinac, and stunning views of Lake Huron make it a must-visit destination. Mayor Margaret Doud expressed her delight at the recognition, highlighting the island’s hardworking community.
New Attractions for 2023
This summer, visitors can look forward to a host of new attractions, including an Irish pub, a Mexican taqueria, and a BMX bike track. Many restaurants will also offer expanded patio seating for guests to enjoy the refreshing lake breeze. Additionally, several Great Lakes cruise ships plan to stop at the island during the season.
Celebrating Milestones
Mackinac Island will mark several important milestones in 2023, including the 125th anniversary of the motorized vehicle ban and Wawashkamo Golf Club, as well as the 75th anniversary of the Lilac Festival and the iconic Pink Pony restaurant. With passenger ferry companies already in operation, the island eagerly awaits its visitors.
